Welcome

the oya way

(The 7 principles below add up to AFDEEEP = AFRICA IS DEEEP)

1. ATTENDANCE

Attend all activities you have signed up to. More than 2 Absences in a term and you may be asked to withdraw.

2. PUNCTUALITY

Arrive on time. Arrive late and you will not be allowed to enter. More than 2 Lates in a

term and you may be asked to withdraw.

3. DRESS CODE

In INDOOR activities, you must REMOVE YOUR COAT/JACKET. No caps, hats or hoods indoors.

4. EQUIPMENT

You must bring everything you need to your lessons:

  • pencil case with several pens and pencils, etc.

  • packet of paper handkerchiefs (tissues)

  • notebook for each subject

5. FOCUS

If you have signed up for any activity, you need to keep FOCUSED. Any attempt to distract yourself or others from the PURPOSE of the activity will be recorded. Consistent FAILURE TO FOCUS means you may be asked to withdraw.

6. ENGAGEMENT

If you have signed up for a lesson or any activity, you must PLAY AN ACTIVE PART. This means responding to questions from a teacher or facilitator, and sharing your opinions and ideas willingly. Consistent FAILURE TO ENGAGE means you may be asked to withdraw.

7. ENVIRONMENT

Take responsibility for the emotional and physical environment – don’t spoil the mood, and keep our shared space clean and tidy.

X

OYA activities on Zoom work in a similar way to face-to-face in person activities.

AFDEEEP applies all the way.

SPECIFIC ZOOM RULES

  • You must turn on your video.

  • You need to be in a quiet space.

  • Do not leave your laptop during a lesson – go to the toilet before, between or after lessons.

  • Failure to respond immediately when asked by a teacher/facilitator will be recorded – 2 failures to respond and you may be asked to withdraw.

homework

You will get 1 hour of homework in ENGLISH, MATHS AND SCIENCE each week.

This will reinforce what you learned in a lesson, and will enable your teacher to see what  further help you need.

HOMEWORK PRESENTATION

Follow the instructions provided when preparing your work. For example, if it says ‘Type in a Word document’, do that. Messy homework, for example dark illegible upside-down screen grabs, will not be marked and will be recorded as NO HOMEWORK SUBMITTED. More than 2 missing homeworks may mean you will be asked to withdraw.

HOMEWORK DEADLINES

You must submit homework by the deadline. Late homework will not be marked and will be recorded as NO HOMEWORK SUBMITTED. More than 2 late homeworks may mean you will be asked to withdraw.

"My daughter has significantly improved academically since joining OYA and we have noticed a big positive difference in her behaviour and attitude to her studies. These behaviours include better time keeping, completing her school and OYA home work in time, and having better respect for herself and others. These are all values that OYA teaches the children who attend and we  are very grateful to OYA for this positive influence in our daughter's life."
